“Fall Mushrooms of Michigan” Program this Weekend!

Our “Fall Mushroom of Michigan” program has two dates with openings this weekend! This program usually sells out, so don’t miss your opportunity to learn about our amazing Michigan mushrooms!

Program Details and Location

Saturday, September 14th and Sunday, September 15th 11:00am-12:30pm, at Lost Lake Nature Park, 846 Lost Lake Trail, Oakland, MI 48363. This program is for Adults 18+. Take a tour of the amazing world of mushrooms. Discover the many types of mushrooms in Michigan in this unique and very hands-on program from mushroom expert Jerry Watson of the Michigan Mushroom Hunters Club.

We will peruse the Seasonal Mushrooms of Michigan with a PowerPoint presentation from our expert and learn about where and how mushrooms grow while inspecting numerous samples up close. Then, we’ll take a walk (no picking) to search for mushrooms in the park too! There is no substitute for the excellent opportunity of taking part in a mushroom hunt with a true mushroom expert! PowerPoint presentation handouts to all registrants to view during Jerry Watson’s lecture.

This Crown-tipped Coral mushroom is probably at bit past its prime since it’s no long white.
This aging mushroom has what mycologists call a “veil,” a partial ring of material around the stem meant to protect the gills under the cap where the spores are released.
A Red Russula mushroom doesn’t have the bumps and stem ring of the red Amanita.
Marasmius mushrooms which may be in the same family as Shitakes but may or may not be edible. related to the Shitake
